The name "Istana Nurul Iman" is taken from Malay Istana and Arabic Nur-ol Imaan and means Palace of the Light of Faith.

It was designed by Filipino Visayan architect Leandro V. Locsin, who utilized the architectural motif of golden domes and vaulted roofs to echo Brunei's Islamic and Malay influences. The interior of the palace was designed by Khuan Chew, Design Principal of KCA International, whose other works include the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. Construction was handled by Ayala Abbott and Butters, a UK construction firm, and completed in 1984 at a total cost of around US$1.4 billion.

Project: BRUNEI ABISKA

The further the woman walked into the neon city, the more curious she became. Why was she here? How did she end up here? She couldn’t remember anything, this caused her to worry slightly, but quickly shook this feeling off. The female continued forward, knowing it was the only way she could go.

The sound of metallic footsteps could be heard, causing the female to press her back against the wall. Slowly she peeked her head around the corner to find robot guards, who seemed to be searching the area. It’s eye began glow, a large red beam shaped like a cone scanning the area, quickly causing her to hide again.

“They’re not here.” One spoke. They? So there was someone else who escaped too, her best bet was to find them. She wanted answers and she wanted them now.

Sam waited for the group of robots to walk past before she moved from her hiding spot. She wondered into a quieter area, which she soon noticed was littered with similar robots she saw before. This was the potential lead she was looking for, following without hesitation.

The female soon came to a stop, seeing a robotic man shooting at these robots. Adjusting her visor, her right arm quick to bring up some files. Fascinating, it seemed she new this man from somewhere, figuring if she did know something like this then he must be important.

Watching the carnage and chaos before her eyes, she soon revealed herself. The young woman put a hand on the hilt of her rapier, even ready to use her magic if she was forced to fight. Cautiously she approached, her voice slightly robotic.

“I heard rumours that someone else escaped the facility, I take it that someone is you. If you don’t mind, I would like to ask a few questions.”

THE SPANISH EXPEDITION TO BORNEO / "CASTILIAN WAR" Date :March–June 1578 Location :Borneo, Mindanao, and Sulu Result :Strategic Brunei Victory

The Portuguese, and later the Spaniards, tried to find an alternative route by sea to Southeast Asia, so they could trade in spices and other products with the Malays. The Portuguese in particular did this by conquering Malacca in 1511, two years after their arrival in the region.

The Spaniards arrived later in the mid-16th century. Their arrival to the archipelago now part of the modern-day Philippines, as well as Spain's intention to spread Christianity, caused a conflict with Brunei, then ruled by Sultan Saiful Rijal, which eventually led to the Castilian War. At the time, Brunei Darussalam was a powerful maritime empire extending from Borneo Island to most parts in the Philippines.

From their ports in Mexico, Spain sent several expeditions to the Philippines and in 1565 under Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, settled in Cebu. For a time Cebu became the capital of the archipelago and the main trading post. It was also the first city for spreading Christianity in the islands.

Because of this, the Spanish aspirations came to clash with those of Brunei. Between 1485 and 1521, the Sultanate of Brunei led by Sultan Bolkiah had established the state of Kota Serudong (otherwise known as the Kingdom of Maynila) as a Bruneian puppet state opposed to the local Kingdom of Tondo. Islam was further strengthened by the arrival to the Philippines of traders and proselytisers from present-day Malaysia and Indonesia.

Despite the influence of Brunei, the multiple states that existed in the Philippines simplified Spanish colonisation. In 1571, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain attacked and Christianised Islamic Manila, which was made the capital of the Philippine Islands, also becoming a hub for trade and evangelisation. The Visayans, (people from the Kedatuan of Madja-as and Rajahnate of Cebu) which before the Spaniards came, had waged war against the Sultanate of Sulu and the Kingdom of Maynila, now became allies of the Spaniards against the Sultanate of Brunei.

Notwithstanding their retreat from Brunei, Spain managed to keep Brunei from regaining a foothold in Luzon.[16] A few years later, relations improved and Spain began trading with the Sultanate, as evidenced by a letter from Don Francisco de Tello de Guzmán, Governor General of Manila, dated 1599 asking for a return of normal relationship.[17] The end of the Castilian War also allowed Spain to focus their attention on the Spanish-Moro war.

THE AFTERMATH: The Sultanate of Brunei would cease to be an empire at sea, eventually turning into a city-state, letting aside any previous territorial expansion policies, and had to give the territory to James Brooke because of the riots in Brunei territory until becoming one of the smallest nations in the world today. This new policy of sustained caution in their dealings with European powers allowed it to survive and become the oldest continuous Islamic political state.

A Common Threat

Sam was on her way to visit the Alchemist Brunei, who she had been in a relationship with for quite some time now. The woman always worked hard at her job at the bakery so that she could afford to visit him as often as humanly possible. She always looked forward to seeing him, her cheeks flushing slightly.

As she got closer to his home, she spotted a small group of what seemed like Noxian soldiers. Luckily there was only five of them, but why were they here? One of the male’s in the group she immediately recognised, her eyes widening in shock, it was her cousin Leon.

Quickly she dashed behind a tree, watching them from a distance. The Conjurer managed to sneak closer, listening in to the conversation.

“That Alchemist better cough up those test results he never gave us!” He said rather aggressively.

“Don’t worry we’ll-” Leon spoke up, but soon stopped himself. He sensed a very powerful magical presence close by, now knowing that they were being watched. “You know, it’s rude to eavesdrop. Show yourself.” The male said smugly.

The female gulped a bit, but looked to her hands, watching as the magical seals spread across her arms and her hands becoming engulfed with a magical purple flame. She stepped out, revealing herself to them, holding out one of her arms before speaking.

“I will not let you harm Brunei. You’re going to have to go through me first!” With that the young woman closed her eyes for a moment, concentrating her magic. What seemed to be a purple like portal formed on the ground and climbing out of it was a giant Ent, which let out a load growl.

“Now it’s my turn to protect you.” She muttered to herself.
